Florence, SC Ann Monk O'Brien, 95, formerly of Charleston, SC, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Methodist Manor in Florence. She was born in Cherokee, Alabama, the daughter of the late Frank S. and Turner Mae Weaver Monk. Mrs. O'Brien attended school in Cherokee, Alabama and received an AA degree from Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee, BS and MA degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She taught school in Birmingham, Alabama before her marriage in 1942. She was a member of the DAR Fort Sullivan Chapter and several bridge clubs. Mrs. O'Brien was predeceased by her husbands, LCDR John L. O'Brien, III, USN and CDR Richard V. Donahue, USN, and her sister, Eliza M. Reid. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Carnell, grandson, Dustin (Jessica) Carnell, and great-granddaughters, Brittany Carnell, Tiffany Carnell and Tatum Flowers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM in the chapel at the Methodist Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Cain Funeral Home is assisting the family.
