A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Alvin Lerome Freeman, 87, who entered into eternal life to be with the Lord in Heaven on June 20, 2010. For further information, contact his daughter, Sherrol Ham at 843-346-7010. He was born July 6, 1922, in Hartsville, SC, the oldest of eight children of the late Ambrose and Daisy Mae Bolton Freeman. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Eloise Powell Freeman; sisters, Naggie Collins, Clara Freeman, and Catherine Knotts; brothers, Wayne and Owen Freeman; and son-in-laws; Charles Wysong Cox, Jr. and John Luther Alexander. He attended Bay Branch School until having to drop out to help his family during the Great Depression. Alvin retired from McLeod Regional Medical Center after 25 years of service in 1989. He was a life-long member of I-20 Baptist Church and attended regularly until his health prevented it. Alvin was an avid farmer and enjoyed sharing his bounty with his many friends and family members. Surviving are: daughters, Sherrol (David) Ham of Timmonsville and Judy Alexander of Darlington; grandchildren, Traci (Davis) Smith of Summerville, SC; and John Alexander, Jr. of Darlington; seven great-grandchildren, Shamra, Mayson, Nicholas, Carleigh, Ryan, Jillian, and Bridgette Smith; sister, Cora Hodges of Alcolu, SC and a brother, Herbert Freeman of Timmonsville.
